The ultra-compact, easy-to-operate Canon Digital
IXUS 300 shares the acclaimed elegance and tactile feel of the original
award-winning Digital IXUS, and now incorporates improved features making
it the world's smallest and lightest 2.1 megapixel camera with a 3x zoom
lens.
The Digital IXUS 300 is Canon's second ultra-compact
digital camera. In addition to the amazing Digital IXUS features,
this new camera boasts a number of innovative and technologically superior
features. These include a 3x optical zoom plus a 2.5x digital zoom
together giving a maximum 7.5x zoom; direct-print capabilities with the
new Canon Card Photo Printer CP-10; recording and playing movie clips with
sound; video output signal selection (NTSC/PAL); a choice of nine image
quality modes; and a new high-speed digital signal processing IC with low
power consumption.
Canon supplies a full range of drivers and software
for photo and video manipulation and printing, all compatible with Windows
98, Windows 2000, Windows ME, and Macintosh. Accessories include a robust
waterproof case tested to 30m for underwater operation, spare rechargeable
Li-ion battery pack, a charger and adapter, case and wrist strap.
Features
Luxurious and Ultra-compact
The Digital IXUS 300 sports a 3x (35-105mm in the 35mm format) all-glass
aspherical lens in an ultra-compact body. Its power-saving configuration
and CPU require only a single Li-ion battery for long-duration operation.
Measuring only 94.8 x 62.5 x 29.9 mm and weighing a mere 240g makes the
Digital IXUS 300 the smallest and lightest 2.1 megapixel camera with a
3x zoom lens in the world.
High Image Quality
The high-resolution, 1/2.7-inch type, 2.11 megapixel CCD ensures crystal-clear
digital image quality. Apart from the high-resolution mode offering 1600
x 1200 pixels, the CCD also has medium and low modes of 1024 x 768 and
640 x 480 pixels respectively, which are ideal for on-screen applications,
such as websites and for emailing to friends and relatives. Optimum
color temperature is achieved through the use of high-precision white balance
(Auto + 4-position preset white balance), while the intelligent AE guarantees
optimum exposure for every shot - even under the most extreme conditions.
Direct Printing with Card Photo Printer CP-10
The Digital IXUS 300's direct-print mode enables the user to print
hard-copy images using Canons CP-10 dye-sublimation printer, but with all
print settings directly controlled from the camera. Print data is transferred
to the CP-10 directly through a dedicated interface cable.
With a resolution of 300 x 300 dpi, the CP-10 can print credit card-sized
colour prints, or eight miniature copies of the same image on one sticker
sheet, in minutes.
Record and Playback Movie Clips with Sound
The Digital IXUS 300 can record movie clips with sound at 20 images
per second in one of three recording pixel modes: 640 x 480, 320 x 240,
or 160 x 120. A movie clip is recorded as an AVI, with image data
saved in Motion JPEG format and the sound in WAVE format. Full audio-video
playback is possible with a connected TV monitor or a compatible PC after
downloading. Downloaded movie clips can be edited, saved, and sent
to others via email using the bundled software.
Easy Operation
The 3x digital zoom allows the angle of view to vary gradually - 2.5x
(max. 7.5x together with the optical zoom) - thus maintaining high image
quality. The Mode Dial, the Digital IXUS 300's easy user interface, sets
one of five modes: Play, Auto, Manual, Stitch Assist and Movie. The smart
3-point AiAF makes focusing easier than ever. And when you link it direct
to the TV to review your shots, your Digital IXUS 300 offers a selectable
video output signal (NTSC/PAL).
Software
To extend the camera's already huge capabilities in a wider range of
photo opportunities, Canon supplies a full range of software and drivers
with the Digital IXUS 300. These include easy-to-use image-editor ZoomBrowser
Ex 2.6 (Win) and ImageBrowser 1.6 (Mac); PhotoRecord 1.2 for easy layout
and printing of multiple images; PhotoStitch 3.1 for seamless panoramic
shots; Remote Capture 1.3, to press the shutter directly from, and transfer
images directly to, your PC; as well as USB TWAIN Driver 3.6/USB WIA Driver/Plug-In
Module 3.6.
