Canon Digital Camera EOS-D30
The EOS D30 is Canon's state-of-the-art 3-megapixel
digital SLR camera featuring a large-area CMOS sensor and compatible with
the entire line-up of Canon EF lenses. Designed to satisfy both amateur
as well as professional requirements, the EOS D30 delivers outstanding
image quality, captured by Canon's proprietary 3.25 megapixel large-area
CMOS sensor, an RGB color filter, and a newly designed digital image-processing
LSI. The compatible range of EF lenses work in concert to offer ultra-high
resolution and superior color fidelity.
EOS D30 features the same mode settings and dial
operations of the EOS series, together with a high-speed 3-point
autofocus, a 35-zone evaluative metering sensor, and a built-in E-TTL (evaluative
through-the-lens) flash system - the first in an EOS-series camera. The
easy-to-read 1.8-inch LCD monitor clearly displays captured images -
stored on CompactFlashTM cards - as well as camera status information.
Its stainless-steel chassis covered by light-weighted
strong-engineered plastics as body, weighted only at 750g (26.5oz), EOS
D30 is the world's lightest digital SLR camera!
EOS D30 Features
3.25-Million-Pixel Large Area CMOS Sensor
A particular feature of the EOS D30 is that it uses a CMOS sensor instead
of a CCD. This proprietary large-area CMOS sensor has been developed
by Canon for high-sensitivity, high-resolution imaging. It features
a sensor size of 22.7 x 15.1 mm with total pixel count of 3.25 million.
Together with the RGB color filter and Canon's newly designed digital image-processing
LSI, the camera ensures true colors and sharp contours, suitable for business
and amateur use.
E-TTL Flash System
The built-in E-TTL (evaluative through-the lens) autoflash provides
flash illumination and exposure control even under complex lighting condition.
This systems features flash exposure compensation function, flash exposure
lock (FEL) function and a 1st curtain/2nd curtain sync-switching function.
Equipped with these functions, it can capture moving subjects easily as
well as providing the proper lighting for the part of the subject you choose.
Compatibility with Canon EF Lenses and EOS Series Accessories
The EOS D30 is compatible with the entire range of Canon EF lenses.
With the CMOS sensor, the coverage with a lens is 1.6 times larger than
with a 35mm film camera. In addition, the camera is compatible with
the full family of EOS series accessories without modification. Its
E-TTL autoflash-compatible hot shoe accepts external flash including 220EX,
380EX or 550EX. The x-sync contact works with external flash and
the remote terminal connects to the new 3-pin remote controller.
Data Recording and Image Storage
The EOS D30 has five data recording formats which include four JPEG
file formats and the RAW format. Compatible with JPEG files, the
DPOF allows you to specify from the camera which files and print quantities
you want, and write this information onto the CF card for easy printing.
Recording images on CF card, the camera is compatible with Type I or
II PCMCIA-ATA standards. When shooting in "large/normal", about 22
images are stored on a 16MB CompactFlashTM card, which comes shipped with
the model.
High-Speed Shooting
When the Drive mode is set to Continuous, the camera is able to shoot
up to 8 frames (using large image size and fine compression mode) in a
continuous sequence at approximately 3 images per second (requiring shutter
speed of 1/250 second or faster). This is due to the newly designed
image-processing engine and high-capacity buffer memory (32 MB).
High Capacity Battery System
The high capacity battery pack BP-511 that is included with the unit
provides enough power to take up to approximately 540 shots when used at
normal temperatures (20oC/68oF), with 50% flash photography. It takes
as little as 90 minutes to recharge the Battery Pack BP-511 by using the
Compact Power Adapter CA-PS400, which comes with the camera.
The Shooting Priority Camera Design
The "shooting priority" facility incorporated into the camera design
has eliminates the need to switch between Rec/Play/PC modes from a control
panel. Pressing the shutter button down halfway enables you to return
to ready-to-shoot mode even when you are viewing pictures or performing
menu operations.
